I am closing on a house in 3 weeks and have been getting homeowner's and flood insurance quotes. One company I'm receiving quotes for is Maison, the other one is American National Insurance or ANPAC.

The guy pushing ANPAC is very adamant that it is a much higher rated company with much more in total assets, but I'm not sure if he's just trying to push that product on me. Anyone have any experience with either of these companies?

Also, would anyone recommend just contacting local agents from any of the big guys like State Farm, Allstate, Liberty Mutual, etc?

Thanks

We have had ANPAC on our house for a while, best rates I have found, fortunately haven't had to use it so I can't comment on the claims process - our agent is good about keeping in touch and re-evaluating every year.

I closed in July of 2013 on my house and went with Maison because they were the cheapest. I recently had to make a claim because I had a pipe leak in my slab. Maison covered the repairs to the plumbing plus nearly my entire kitchen (base cabinets were soaked). They could have given me way less than they did. So I can say Im happy with them

ANPAC is a good company but with that said, I would not get insurance through them if the cost was much higher than another.

I've had ASI for about 5 and a half years. Made a hail claim on my roof last year, and it went very smooth. Biggest selling point for me with them was the named storm deductible is 1K, not a %.

you should know that there's a big difference between having insurance and getting paid for your loss.

ANPAC is a good and fair company, as property insurers go.
