Do people on medicaid, food stamps, and other handouts get tax refunds?

If so, how much on average? I read an article where people are bitching because their 8k refund is being held up for various reasons and the description of their situation made it seem like they were dependent on welfare. How do you get back 150% more than you pay in taxes?

most of them do if they have kids. I have an employee that makes about $14 an hour or so, has 4 kids and a wife that doesn't work and he gets back about 12 to 14k a year. They then proceed to buy dumb shite like ordering a 1500 dollar dog from Oklahoma and having it flown to Alabama and a four wheeler this year.

$6000 is more normal with 3 bastards.
The tax code is somewhat refunds but growing into arbiter of social policy. These are not refunds but theft from the hardest working to the hardly working.

Hell yes they get refunds.
It's part of their lifestyle--they look at it as free money. No concept of how our tax system works.

Tax credits. This board supports them.
They likely generate more economic activity than the face value. Those people spend the money on goods and services which "creates" jobs.

EIC has to factor in there.

Earned income tax credit, otherwise known as the "un-earned" income tax credit.

HOW
1 person working with 5 dependents is a lot of exemption. Couple that with all 4 kids being in school (lots of credits there) and it all adds up stupidly fast.

I got nothing for my kids and I still had to pay. Worked my arse off last year. Makes me sick bc they take taxes out of my check so it's not like I don't pay all year.

It really a a joke that some people get more than they even pay in taxes.

I don't know the answer to that question...but if they do, I would have to assume that it is because they qualify for a number of "tax credits".....
it is important to remember that a "deduction" just exempts you from paying taxes on that money, while a "credit" is actually a payment...
so, as I see it, if you have little or no taxable income but qualify for a number of credits, you could actually make money by filing a tax return...
hopefully, someone knowledgable can clear this up if I am wrong...

I cannot wrap my mind around this. The guy making 14/hr gets back just as much in taxes as what I pay in

But doesn't it make you feel warm and fuzzy knowing you are paying for other's refunds so they can buy $1500 dogs and take the kids to Disney!
