You haven't "picked" anything yet if you still enjoy other teams as much as Chelsea. Just watch the sport for awhile and your team will come to you.

You don't have to pick one team, if you don't want to. I don't have a favorite team. I just really enjoy watching soccer at the highest levels. I follow the Premier League and Champions League pretty closely. And, to a lesser extent, the other major European Leagues
Same here.
Two of my favorite teams are Spurs and Arsenal which is heresy to North Londeners. But I'm not from there so who the hell cares?
I also like Everton, Southampton and Sunderland in the EPL and Charlton and Crewe in the lower leagues.

No need to pigeonhole yourself by picking a random team just to do it.
Unless you want to because it enhances your enjoyment.

And Spurs fans and Arsenal fans worldwide, probably.

My list goes like this
1. USMNT
2. USMNT
3. Flamengo
4. HSV
5. Ajax

That's a new one for this board.

IDGAF
Most of those fans have no real reason for being a fan of either team in the first place.
If you are from Birmingham, AL and you like Bama and Auburn, you are probably under 10 or a moron. If you are from Phoenix AZ and you like both, why not?

So geography is the only legitimate reason for picking teams to support? Got it.

Probably.

You can enjoy watching both teams play. But calling yourself a fan of two of the biggest, fiercest rivals in a given league (Bama-Auburn or Spurs-Arsenal)? That's goofy to do, no matter where you're from.

Of course not, and I never said that. But the true fans, who have been going to games at Highbury and White Hart because their parents and grandparents did are a lot different than some random American latching on.

Well, that's why I said to the OP that if he wanted to pick someone and be a fan/supporter then go for it.
I like both Arse and Spurs, so I probably am not a "fan/supporter" by most definitions.

It'll be interesting to see how US viewers' loyalty plays out. I'm sure the results are a lot different than in the UK.
By that, I mean you probably have Chelsea fans that wouldn't fit personality wise with the majority of Chelsea fans in the UK, people who like Spurs and Arsenal, etc.
For example, as an Everton fan, it probably makes no sense that I loathe Tottenham like I do.

Most Chelsea fans here are upper middle class from west London
They also have a huge nyc fan base
Liverpool is the hipster pick in the states, while scousers are nothing close to that

Everton actually seemed like the really trendy pick prior to this season on a lot of social media. Seemed like lots of people thought they could find an up and coming side that they wouldn't be called "a bandwagoner" for supporting.

Started watching with the 2002 World Cup. Was around 2010-11 before I realized that I cared more about Arsenal than the others.
I remember rooting for ManU when they broke Arsenal's unbeaten streak in 2004. Makes me sick to even think about it now. Rooney clearly took a dive.

Yep saw them at the Imtech Area ( now Volksparkstadion ) two Novembers ago vs Hannover. They won 3-1. I also saw Bayer 04 vs Nurnberg at the BayArena too. That was a damn good trip. Wife and kids did the Xmas markets and I did the footies. Wunderbar.

Root for whoever you want. I just started getting into soccer in the last couple years and gravitated to Chelsea.
You'll love being a fan.
And anyone who tells you off for rooting for Chelsea can frick off.
We ain't got no history!

m curious to those that have been watching longer than me, how long did it take for you to find that one team to root for.
I picked Bayern Munich as my team because it was different and I really liked Lahm and Kroos (at Real now) One of my friends is a Barca fan and the other is a Liverpool fan so wanted to root for someone outside of those leagues. I root for Barca and Liverpool though.

I used to be all about River Plate, when Fox Soccer used to be FoxSportsWorld and showed Argentine soccer. Boca Juniors can go to hell.
