If NBA games were played once a week, it would be way more popular.
I think this is one thing I love about the NBA though. It's a lot less fluky. In the NFL, a few plays and unlucky bounces can be the difference between 9-7 and 11-5. The NBA regular season and playoffs keeps fluky teams from winning it all.

The NFL is still the much, much better product and it's not even really close. The best two sports leagues/products in this country are the NFL and college football, and then there is a huge gap before anyone else factors in.
The NBA calendar shouldn't start until Christmas Day, maybe Thanksgiving Day at the earliest. It's hard for me to really get into the NBA when the better sport is going on and heating up when the NBA starts. It's also hard to care about a regular season when I know over half the teams in the league are going to make the playoffs and 2-4 playoff teams are going to be at or below .500 each year, while the NFL has only had two teams in the history of the league make it in with sub .500 records. They need to lop off at least 4 playoff teams and then we'll have something again.
