I would go with the 7mm-08 in a short action light and easy to handle rifle. They make great climbing or ladder stand guns. I use my kids gun for this
Most people don't even realize the ballistics of the 7mm-08 they just spout off the same ole shite they have always heard.
I used the Federal Fusion 120gr bullets but now I reload Barnes 120gr. They are deer killers and my kids have never complained about recoil.
7mm-08 120gr Federal Fusion
Muzzle Velocity: 3000 fps
Muzzle Energy: 2398 ft. lbs.
7mm-08 140gr Federal Fusion
Muzzle Velocity (fps): 2850,
Muzzle Energy (foot lbs): 2525
.270 130gr Federal Fusion
Muzzle Velocity: 3050 fps
Muzzle Energy: 2685 ft. lbs
.308 150gr Federal Fusion
Muzzle Velocity: 2820 fps
Muzzle Energy: 2650 ft. lbs.
25-06 120gr Federal Fusion
Muzzle Velocity: 2980 fps
Muzzle Energy: 2365 ft. lbs.
