I honestly don't know but I'll admit it makes me uncomfortable. My guess is that there are some cases where living as your actual sex is truly somehow in conflict with your personality. But there is just so much subjectivity, especially when you have whacked out parents raising their 5 year old children as the opposite sex.

The issue is that there isn't any subjectivity with respect to gender. It's just patently absurd that people are upvoting these imbeciles posting bullshite attempting to legitimize this practice.
