Applying for a job at a place where you do business

Yay or nay? I've been looking for a job, and I saw online today that a perfect job for me (basically the same thing I've been doing) was posted. Upon further investigation, I found that it's at a place where I do frequent business. I'm kind of nervous about applying because I don't want to make it awkward if they go with someone else. I still have to do business there. Also, I'm uncertain of how to approach it. I don't have personal ties, but I do see these people quite often and they know me. I don't want to be informal but I also don't know how to write my cover letter. Just like I'm applying for a job at any other place? Any advice appreciated. TIA

if you are familiar with them, just go talk to them. see if they are interested in you applying for the job. if they are, submit an application and resume.

It's frowned upon or more accepted in some industries relative to others. For example, in construction, it's prett much an established fact that many of the workers working for the general contractor performing maintenance on a plant can end up working for that plant directly. Many construction companies are pipelines for jobs with various chemical companies and refiners. With construction laborers, it's even more ubiquitous. People change companies with every job. If they work a maintenance job at the same plant for years and their company loses that contract, a large percentage of those employees will stay behind and work for whomever takes over that contract.

I don't think McDonald's will turn away your business if you don't get the job... I think you'll be good

If you dont get the job, just start shopping at a different Wal Mart

if you know people on the inside go talk to them first. as we all know at times when you see the posting for a job you are already too late
