Really funny to hear all these college students bitching about higher ed cuts yet they fail to understand the basic principals of our constitution. If thats the best they can do at the collegiate level, cut away. They all need to be in trade school.

here is a novel solution...

how about we get a new constitution?

The one that says we don't only need to cut from higher education and health care.

Haven't seen a politician mention this

Excellent idea. But in order for that to happen you'll need to get the often-forgotten, never mentioned LEGISLATURE involved. Many people seen to think this is all the Guvs fault. Where are your legislators? They need to take responsibility too!

They haven't mentioned it because it isn't true. They are counting on misinformed people like you to perpetuate the belief.

From a technical standpoint, they can easily cut from any agency that gets money from the general fund, which is a large chunk of what your typical state agency gets its funding from.

What you are talking about is a common sense law that prevents the governor from creating his own budget by himself. Who in their right mind would want that? All he can do is cut a certain programs in higher ed and healthcare + a percentage from executive departments. If he wants to cut deeper then he needs to call the legislature into session.

In terms of the $1.6 billion budget deficit for the upcoming fiscal year, they can make those cuts during the legislative session. Jindal is basically king and he is the one who starts the ball rolling by providing a budget proposal to the legislature.

The more you know..
