quote:yes. Kelvin or Rankine. You have to use absolute temperature units here.
we prob talkin Kelvin here right? Thats celsius +273 or some shite
80 F = 540R
40 F = 500R
12.5 psig = 27.1 psia
500/540 x 27.1 psia = 25.1 psia
25.1 psia = 10.5 psig
Science CONFIRMED.

I'm shocked that a Boston College professor said this

So you are accusing the chair of a department at a very prestigious American university of making up data to help his hometown team? Yeah...I think most scientists care about their reputations and careers more than they do the life and death of their football team.

I agree.
But those damn climate change scientists? Clearly they're the exception.

There are going to be some butthurt saints fans when not even a fine is levied over this.

Bahahaha.
How often have you hung out with doctorates? They wouldn't risk sounding like an idiot just to help out the hometown team.

What is overblown about it, exactly?
Posted on 1/24/15 at 3:52 pm to Jcorye1
Most doctorates aren't from the town they are currently working in anyway.
Posted on 1/24/15 at 3:53 pm to Spirit of Dunson
Exactly.
The couple I know from LSU (small sample size) actually hate the football team because they feel like it takes away from LSU's academics.

I got my doctorate in NYC. I am not a giants fan.
I really do think this is simply a temperature effect.
That is hard for me to say as a saints fan.

Its being talked about on CNN and Fox News by people who haven't watched a down of football. The whole story is dumb. All this over some under inflated balls in a game that was a rout.
Posted on 1/24/15 at 3:58 pm to NeathOrangeandBlue
I'll agree that it's a bit much on the news channels.
Why does the fact that the game wasn't competitive matter at all?

Is this like that time that you said the colts running game and run defense has improved since November and the colts were gonna win?

I would have never expected a story like this to take over the news channels like it did considering this had no apparent impact on the outcome of the game. I understand why ESPN talks about. I mean, What else are they going to talk about?
The accusations by themselves are laughable, its only being talked about because people know Brady and New England. If this was the Chiefs and Alex Smith, I bet this story wouldn't have picked up steam and been overblown like it has.

Anyone else tired of the word "overblown" being used in reference to this story?
Posted on 1/24/15 at 4:12 pm to NeathOrangeandBlue
You're probably right. Alex Smith and the Chiefs don't have a history of cheating.
The outcome of the game is irrelevant. The Patriots didn't know they were going to destroy the Colts when they (allegedly) deflated balls to gain a competitive advantage.

This is actually the easiest part to understand; the Colts pumped up their balls more than the Patriots did. Naughton even argued that the pigskins Indianapolis supplied might have been inflated past the NFL’s maximum PSI limit, but you won’t see the NFL launching an investigation into that.
Weak sauce argument. The NFL validated the balls and the Colts balls were compliant, not overinflated.
