Don't really use excuses. My boss doesn't really ask for them. I just say that I can't come in. I generally don't abuse it.

Why lie. Just say I'm using some vacation, sick, or personal time and stop racking your brain to come up with silly excuses.

"What's the contract say? If it's not in the contract...we're not doing it."
Oh wait...that's a particular Aerospace company and its members who say that to get out of work.
Never mind..I misunderstood the question.

This is a solid excuse for anything in life.
I had a lawyer call to cancel a deposition in Midland, Texas because he crapped in his pants. He called and said "I can't make the deposition ... I had an accident." I asked "Were you hurt?" and he replied "it was not that kind of accident."
It was a Saturday and we had flown into Midland for the deposition, but the client didn't want to make a big stink of it.

We don't need any excuses.. We log onto the work Web page.. Click employee availability.. Click lay off.. Then click one of the 10 different options from layoff sick, layoff personal, family sick, fmla, vacation, personal leave (different from layoff personal because you get paid for these days) and a few other then click submit and voila your off of work... If you layoff sick, you best go to your Dr or urgent care and use your insurance and get an excuse from the Dr...

You could just tell them you're getting close to overtime pay. Walmart doesn't like paying greeters like you overtime.
