Hmm, I seriously wonder whether 15% of people in St James actually commute into the core parishes of Orleans/Jefferson. I know a sizeable number commute to industrial jobs in St John & St Charles...so do they have to drive into the core of the area, or does the periphery count toward SMSA aggregation as well?

If DOTD would finish 4-laning LA 3127 all the way to Hwy 70, you'd see more commuting from Vacherie back toward NOLA. But at present, it's 4-lane to the SCP line, then peters back to 2 lane. The rights of way are purchased, cleared, & graded...now if the state would just lay the damn road. The connection from 3127 to the Gramercy MS river bridge was a boost, now the state just needs to finish it off.

I'm not sure how they do the calculation, but the interview made it sound like people who commuted from "inner" areas out to St James counted as well.

So for example, if the population of St James is 10,000 people, and 1,500 people either commuted from St James towards the city, or from the city towards St James, the standard would be met.

A lot of them commute into Jefferson to work at some of the plants along the river on the West side.
