Have door-to-door proselytizers ever had any success?

2 old nice black ladies in their best Sunday clothes just rang my doorbell to talk to me about the Bible. I am a Christian and have zero interest in this. I cannot imagine a non-Christian even remotely wanting to be bothered at their home to try and be converted.

I hate any stranger bothering me in general, especially at my home. I wish all these people would just leave me the frick alone.

Do you think it would do any good if I put a sign on my front door saying "Do not bother me for any reason whatsoever"?

These are not the thoughts of a Christian.

I did not realize it was a Christian's duty to enjoy being bothered in the sanctitude of his home. I was very polite to them but inside I was roiling in irritation. I would say I did exactly what a Christian was supposed to do. I was kind and polite despite wanting to be the exact opposite of that.

Why do you close your heart so?

I like Penn Jilette's take on this subject. As an atheist, he obviously doesn't believe in what they're selling... But he respects them because they're doing something that is extremely uncomfortable because they are ultimately trying to save his soul. I don't think I could do it.

Am I really the only one that absolutely hates being bothered at my home by door-to-door types? True, I generally have no interest in people beyond the handful of friends I have, and true I have no desire in making additional friends - about 3 or 4 is plenty. But do even people who enjoy the company of others still enjoy being bothered at their house?

Well that's just weird and unnatural. Our ancient ancestors hundreds of thousands of years ago survived because they were suspicious of their neighbor and then passed on those genes to us. The ones that welcomed strangers with open arms were the ones killed for their food and women.

Is there any better feeling than catching a glimpse of the person/people at your door, knowing they didn't see you, and just leaving them hanging? So rewarding.

It's impossible for me to do that without them seeing me, unfortunately.

I personally like to watch out my window as my neighbors squirm through their spiel because they're too nice to tell them to beat it.

No, would not put a sign on the door. Just strip down buck naked and ask if you could be of assistance.

i respect their commitment and will be nice to hardcore believers, provided they respect my right to request them NOT try to convert me... if i ask you to stop and politely leave the premises, and you don't, then we gonna have a problem....

My wife just opens the door, tells them we're not interested in what they have to say, politely wishes them a good day and closes the door. All before they say a word. I'm still working on being able to so this...just feels rude.

She's a Christian. I'm not

Not at my house, my dogs have always convinced them that speaking to me wasn't worth it.

My dog is the nicest dog ever, but black people are stilled scared to death of her when I answer the phone holding her back with her harness. My dog is old and tired though and did not even react today when the doorbell rang. She was no where in sight while I spoke to those ladies.

I was in BFE middle/eastern TN. Up around Byrdstown for those familiar with the area. Up in the Smokey foothills. I was doing some volunteer work fixing up people's trailers. Anyways, I walk up to this one trailer that you had to get lost to find. Someone inside yells for me to come in, so I open the door and walk in. I walk in and see this woman down on her knees, in tears, as this preacher is above her with a hand on her head and a bible up in the air with the other hand. He is saying some snake-handler fire and brimstone type shite. Turns out he's baptizing this woman.

This goes on for 10 minutes or so. I'm just standing there, thinking about making a run for it. It calms down and she stands back up, though she is still bawling loudly. She hugs the preacher and he says some stuff about being in the kingdom of God now. He gets his bag and walks out.

Turns out this guy was a traveling preacher and was going around knocking on doors. He knocked on this lady's door and she let him in to talk. One thing led to another and she was baptized.

So from experience, I know that one guy has had success with one lady.

There's more to this story, such as her kid that had webbed feet because his father was his mom's cousin, rattlesnakes in bath tubs, and pushing a car off a cliff. All around the most surreal day of my life. I couldn't make it up if I tried.

And if the dogs don't seem to work on them, I tell them no thanks, I'm Catholic. The reactions on their faces are comical, like I'm a devil worshipper or something. I always get a kick out of how fast that changes their minds.
