Maybe I am misremembering, but I'm pretty sure the tuck rule game was his first year as a starter. He beat the Raiders, then Bledsoe beat the Steelers, and Brady returned to beat the Rams.

You're correct. Brady played in one game in the 2000 season, his first in the NFL. He took over after Bledsoe was hurt with about 2 minutes remaining in a loss to the Jets in the 2nd game of the 2001 season., leaving the Pats at an 0-2 start. Under Brady, the team struggled back to a 5-5 record, then won the last 6 games of the regular season, then came the Tuck game.

yea my memory was hazy on that.
I should have looked it up to make sure before I posted. However, the point was that it was pretty big news at the time that Bledsoe had to sit and eventually got replaced b/c at the time he was fairly highly regarded.
