There is some good news about Steele to combat the fart smell in the air

He has coached under legends Tom Osborne, Bobby Bowden and Nick Saban. He must have something good going on. He was named National Recruiter of the Year under Bowden for helping to bring in the #1 class. He has helped Bama bring in #1 classes as well. And of course, Nebraska went undefeated and won the NC in 2004 before he went to the Pros. So he has been a part of some of the winningest programs around and coached under some of the biggest legends of all time.
Back to the bad news: "During the 1999 season, Steele's Baylor team was involved in what ESPN.com called one of the top 10 worst coaching decisions when he chose a running play rather than a kneel down with his team leading and possessing the ball in the game's final 12 seconds with the opponent (UNLV) out of timeouts. The ensuing Baylor fumble and UNLV return for a touchdown gave the Rebels a shocking win."
Back to the good news - he won't be the head coach and LSU is loaded with talent on D. Who knows?

“I don’t know if I could remember anybody that I would say, all around, is any better than him,” Saban said. “And I’ve been around a lot of good coaches.” - Nick Saban on Kevin Steele
I'm trying to be a pumper for a day
PS - Clemson forced him out as D-coordinator

I'm probably very late to this, but Chavis and Steele are best friends??? What are the odds? So if shite goes bad, he can just call up Chavis during games while aTm is getting blasted by 30 during any given week and have Chavis tell him what to do with our talent.

I'll look at the positives.
1. He can recruit. Life blood of college football. You can never have enough studs.
2. So he can't slow down WV and spread offenses. For whatever reason we got this spread thing figured out. Ex. WV (2), A&M, Oregon, TCU... So let Brick handle the duties of stopping the spread.
3. We (Chavis) really struggled with power running qb's. Ex ND, Clemson, MSU, AU, UF (Tebow)... Chavis could never figure out how to stop this. Maybe Steele can stop it. He can't do worst.
4. Maybe our D can get off the field on 3rd & long now???

Just came across this gem (we might possibly really suck next year if the hire doesn't work out, but this hire combined with Les on the sidelines next year might equal one hell of a 30 for 30 story one day)
"We have heard several disturbing things about Steele's possible psychological breakdown during the Orange Bowl game. Multiple sources have said that he was calling plays from his days with the Panthers, which aren't in the Clemson playbook, and as such the players were totally confused. It reportedly happened during the Auburn game as well. I do not know if that is true, and frankly think it a bit farfetched, but I do know that Steele has a reputation for being a nervous wreck on gamedays. I'm sure most of you recall that he passed out on the sidelines during a game, and I have heard many times that he requires an IV for fluids because he's such a wreck and won't eat at all on gameday. Hopefully he can get these things corrected for his own health."

quote:He sucked balls at Baylor and Clemson.
He has coached under legends Tom Osborne, Bobby Bowden and Nick Saban.
quote:FSU and Bama recruit themselves. Much like LSU.
He was named National Recruiter of the Year under Bowden for helping to bring in the #1 class. He has helped Bama bring in #1 classes as well.
quote:You sure about that? Pretty sure Nebraska was no where near the championship in 2004.
And of course, Nebraska went undefeated and won the NC in 2004
quote:And he still can't field a decent defense.

Wasnt Les calling Okie State plays for LSU one game or two?

Saban would have processed him the day after their loss if he would've wanted him gone. Saban has hired that guy twice. Look on the bright side, if he sucks, the whole coaching staff will get a facelift really fast. That's what most people on here basically want anyway. Next year will be interesting.

Sorry, it was 1994. Thanks dildeaux. Kidding...you're a little serious.

Nothing like shooting fish in a barrel.

I believe Saban and Smart played Les like a fiddle. Smart probably lobbied for Steele know he sucks and would bring LSU down further.
Posted on 1/13/15 at 7:38 pm to The Mick
They probably did...Saban probably was hoping LSU would take both of them after their last two games.

Everywhere he has been a DC he has failed.
Posted on 1/13/15 at 7:38 pm to Big EZ Tiger
So the "bad news" is one play where he wasn't actually carrying the ball himself?
Posted on 1/13/15 at 7:39 pm to Big EZ Tiger
He's a good recruiter. Worst case scenario he leaves the cupboard well stocked. Best case scenario, he gets us some quarterbacks.

And going 1-31 in Big 12 as head coach at Baylor gives insight to his impact as a motivator, etc.
