It's pretty damn awful. While GRRM has his writing faults, he's been incredibly good at writing these character arcs that really make you question how you feel about them. You start out rolling your eyes at Theon's smug arse, hating him when everything goes down at Winterfell, and then you end up kind of rooting for him to frick some people up after what he endures at the hands of the Boltons.

He's trying hard to make me feel bad for him, but I still feel like the little shite deserved it.

He has become one of my favorite story lines.
The final part of his story in book 5 is one of the most redeeming moments of any part of any of the books IMO.
Though technically it's told from Asha's P.O.V. (I think)

"Don't you recognice me sister? Theon Greyjoy. A man has got to have a name."
I was like, boom, drop book, walk away.
I'm %100 sure I booted that quote up. But that was the general point. Top 10 moment of the entire series for me.
