Vanderbilt vs Lady Tigers Womens Hoops preview, Ballard back!

Vanderbilt 8-6, 0-2, rpi 44 vs LSU 7-7,1-1 rpi 160
JUST HEARD BALLARD IS BACK..WE WIN THIS ONE
Vanderbilt is coming off home loss to UT Monday and with no seniors on the roster this may be good time for Lady Tigers to get their second SEC win. Vandy is well coached and always gives LSU fits..lead overall series 24-17 although home team has won last 10!
LSU’s win at UF looks better after Gators impressive win at Auburn Sunday. Still SEC women, as is often the case, very much a haves (UT, Texas A&M, South Carolina, UK, Miss St, UGA all into top 25) and have nots, Auburn, Ole Miss, Bama LSU, Florida all RPI’s over 100 with UF worst at 179.
If they play 40 minutes each game Lady Tigers can compete with most of SEC and this would be a big win especially given next four games are versus clear “haves” in SEC and a loss to VU likely means 1-6 heading into late January.
All this changes a bit if oft troubled star Ballard rejoins Tiger team sooner rather than later.
Look for a low scoring defensive game here…55-51….but not sure who wins. Ill be there and hope we have a good crowd...

kind of a "must win" if we are going to have any shot at postseason, but cathcing Vandy with one day less rest and off a loss to UT, this is very winnable-maybe worst Vandy team in 10+ years.
btw, our rpi is 160! wow, we need Ballard back

Postseason will be getting summer jobs. Postseason? Really?

Ole Miss, Auburn, Florida and Bama are horrible, could still go .500 in conf, not likley, but possible, if we get Ballard back.

No doubt this is a winnable game. Hopefully, the ladies will put it together. Vandy is usually a tough opponent for us regardless of who our coach has been. I don't think that playing in the postseason (NCAA tournament) is realistic for us right now. We need to just concentrate on getting better every game. At this point, I really don't see Ballard coming back...........at least not this season.

Not really...but like your optimism

Vandy isn't as bad as their record shows. This will be a tough game, but it is at home. Yea everyone can kiss the NCAA tournament out the window, not gonna happen

Alabama and Ole Miss aren't too bad actually, I watched them play. If I recall Alabama and Ole Miss choked their games away to ranked teams with a lead. It is vital tonight though that we win, if not it will really be very bad heading into February. Does anyone know what other recruits we are targeting?

Well if Ballard is back, that helps a lot. But that still doesn't make this a great team. We're still VERY thin in the post. Even with her coming back I didn't expect this team to do a whole lot in conference play. But let's see what happens.

TBH I am not completely convinced she will come out like she did at the NCAA Tournament. Ballard has been a hit or miss in her games here. Hopefully she comes back where she left off! We need her in every way possible. I'd like to see
Ballard
Moncrief
Harden
Boykin
Amichia
Pretty solid line up

laugh all you want but if we go .500 in sec and win two in sec trny we will be in post season (NCAA or WNIT), not saying its gonna happen but we have 5 games vs over 100 rpi teams left so win those add an upset or two and we may make it above .500 overall and get a WNIT invite

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Just win the day as they're saying now.

Its not impossible, I am just saying it will be difficult. Last year we went 7-9 in the SEC with a better team with more talent and experience. The only games I can see us winning are Florida, Vandy, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Missouri. We still have work to do. We will see how this plays out. Caldwell's teams seem to be unlucky with injuries. The key will be to stay healthy as well.

Looks like we got this one fellas

This team goes as their defense goes! Great win, it will take Ballard a few games to get back into it

We were getting killed on the boards for most of the game but besides that they looked good. Only 12 TOs and forced them into 24. Not a typical Vandy team but I'll take it.
ETA: And for everyone who wants Caldwell fired the person who'd probably be replacing her was calling the game.
