Already did.

If they can make the money, they should go. I don't see what the NFL draft services see in some of these guys. Example: Jalen Collins the #4 CB in the draft? Yeah, he has "measurables", but he doesn't have "INTs" or "forced fumbles" and only "broke up" 9 passes. That said, if he can make a roster and not the practice squad then go for it. I think it's also a huge risk for some of these guys. They have to realize that even if they do make it, they're really only taking home like $200k cash. Rent a place. Buy a used car. But few of them do that.
I also think that for every NCAA athelete, they should be forced to take personal finance courses for credit. I don't want to see any of these kids driving a forklift after making $900k in two years and then being done with their careers and I won't have any sympathy for them if they go bankrupt.
The 30 for 30 on being broke is one of the most shocking things - like how can you misunderstand the frequency of how you will be paid, and that the government is going to take half your shite. How can you possibly misunderstand this? But they do all the time. And then they don't have the money to come back and finish a degree - it's depressing.

I don't have a problem with a player leaving early if he receives a high round grade from the NFL. What baffles me is why are the players leaving when they receive a stay in school grade? I realize they may be drafted but it will be at a low round. Or they could not be drafted at all. Another year could greatly benefit them. More money in the long term vs. little money in the short term
The new CBA with it's rookie pay scale is a big part of the problem. It doesn't make economic sense to come back if you can make a roster.

Have you ever been poor? Not a bash, I'm just curious. I have been, and it sucks.

I agree with all of this. However, I will add that the NFL should do more to protect the athletes. The players should have money for future returns to college built into their contracts. It could be an NFL-run trust for post-football education. A lot of MLB contracts have something like this.

make them pay LSU back for 3 years of expenses incurred by the university.

Yeah, because LSU definitely doesn't make millions of dollars for each game they play in....

My bad. Hard for me to recognize the sarcasm sometimes, especially when some other idiots have made the "slavery" argument in the past.

I agree about making them pay back every dime the university spent on them if they declare early.
I've always wished we could create a culture around the program where leaving early was simply unacceptable, and would make your teammates really frown upon you.

I've seldom thought about the same thing. Since Barry Sanders drew the line back in 1989 (he did this because he lost his coach and OSU was being put on probation) There were 38 underclassmen who declared the following year. That number dropped significantly the following few years. More info here: LINK
Although people didn't foresee it as becoming a problem, those numbers would rise to avg around 50 a year around the turn of the millennium. The number rose to a "then record" 74 underclassmen in 2013.. That record was obliterated the following year with 98 underclassmen in 2014. Now people are viewing it as a problem.
You may want to read this, too. Several of these things have been discussed in this thread already.

Lose alot of games and be irrelevant again. The kids we would have here won't be good enough to play in the NFL.

Ok...that protects the kids that got drafted and signed a contract.....but what about those that went undrafted? Do you realize that almost 40% of underclassmen that declared last year didn't get drafted, and very few actually made a team?

Its a valid question and I don't know the answer. I was thinking the other day that pay to play might help us....Cash is king ya know.

That's on them. I think the early combine thing would help weed some of those out, but some kids are just going to make bad decisions. You will never stop some people from making bad decisions, and taking away the negative impacts of their bad decisions will only make others more willing to make bad decisions.
I have friends that dropped out of school to make money waiting tables. Now they're stuck waiting tables. It is not the school's responsibility to undo their bad decisions.

Oh we know Compare the compensation value of what they are getting before taxes; The tuition, room and board, food, training facilities, tutors....it's like $75k. Roughly the same as what a minor league hockey player makes.
Minor league hockey players don't get the worship and women these guys get. Pay to play is NEVER going to be able to stack up against $450k in a NFL roster spot. Why bother?

I'm kind of dry with it, and you're right about the rampant use of stupidity on this board.

There should be a minor league for the jackasses that are marginal and still leave. They never intended to be a college student. They simply want to showcase and leave.
The NFL should pony up some money for a minor league rather than have colleges pay for them.
