Sony Really Is A Terrible Company

I've had a Sony Blu-Ray player for years that I've had no issue with until now. However, I recently went to play some new discs I got for Christmas and the player would not recognize them despite the discs being brand new. I did some research online and apparently, I'm not the only one to have this problem. Sony has a software error that it preventing it's players from reading Blu Rays made after a certain year. It still plays my older discs, btw.

Maybe you should read reviews before purchasing expensive equipment.

Tried updating the software on the device?

North Korea hacked your Blu ray player.

Did you not read the OP? I've had the player for three years.

How would I go about this?

Buy a new blue ray player and problem is solved. You said you've had it for years you probably already got your money worth.

No, it was out a few years prior to me purchasing it.

Just run a cable to your router from your player and update the software. Problem solved. Won't have to do that with WiFi capable players. My Sony blu ray player is 4 years old and it works fine.

Once again, you fail to pay attention. This is a recent development. Reading reviews in 2011 would have done no good. The player still works on older discs it just cannot read anything made after 2014 because of the way they are now formatting the discs.

But if it has been reported there should be a software update.

get a vcr, you're obviously too retarded for technology

Last decent product Sony made was a walkman

If you can fully work a VCR, you're probably actually pretty good with technology.

Dude, this is normal for Blu-ray players. You have to keep the firmware updated regularly or newer movies may not play.
Update the firmware and you will be fine.

Go to settings on your player and look for software updates. If it is not wi-fi compatible run an Ethernet cable from your cable router to the player. There should be an input for this.
