Just two days ago, I revised my annual list of "things not to talk about with people under 30 because they won't know what you're talking about." Here are some excerpts.

TL;dr: stuff old people remember

USFL football; "Where's the Beef?"; Monty Python; Ted Koppel / Nightline / Libyan Hit Squad; Saturday morning cartoons; CB radio; mood rings; "new wave" music; disco; rap (the original, good stuff); punk rock; glam rock; floppy disks; typewriters; "American Bandstand"; MTV that actually played music; "Friday Night Videos"; "Night Flight"; "Up! All Night with Rhonda Shear"; "Miami Vice"; "Twin Peaks"; black and white TVs; "21 Jump Street" (yes - it was a TV show, and it was much better than the lame movie remakes); Sony Walkmans; Blockbuster Video (and VCRs/videotape in general); flying when it was fun and you could get peanuts on the plane; the gas shortage; the meat shortage; Vanilla Ice; balloon pants; grunge music; pet rocks; Bruce Lee; space food; the moon landings; Skylab (and it's demise over Australia: yes, the US had a space station before the ISS); the MIR space station; Three Mile Island; "streaking"; "mix tapes"; the Atlanta child murders; Walter Cronkite; the Bay City Rollers; "Baywatch"; "hair bands"; the infamous NYC blackout; Dr. J; Patty Hearst; "The Fonz"; "Smokey and the Bandit"; Chuck Barris and "The Gong Show" with "Gene Gene, the Dancing Machine" and "The Unknown Comic"; Howard Cosell; and thin versions of Kirstie Alley and Delta Burke.

I had a 20 something year old look at me in horror when I tried to explain what a "VJ" was from MTV.

MIR space station

Per G. Gordon Liddy, who could be on your list, MIR stands for Mistakes Involving Russians.
