Catch-22 of the LSU passing game

LSU is starting a true sophomore QB with no game experience or extensive knowledge of the playbook.
In order to win games this year, they limit their QB via playcalling, emphasizing short throws or throws along the sideline with little chance of being intercepted.
As a result of said playcalling, defenses sit on underneath routes and our passing attack neither moves the ball nor turns the ball over.
Nothing will improve until Jennings improves. He will be a Junior next year and one of only a handful of returning QBs in the conference. This is a huge offseason for him, for his young WRs, and for LSU football.
Godspeed.

This is what LSU did with JJ in 2009. Lots of underneath, safe stuff.

We didn't utilize the quick game, short throws, hardly at all. It seemed like run, run, bomb to Dural.
I'm not going to get into it, because it will give me a head ache. Our offense is just really poor by design. I can't help but think about the what ifs, if we just had a normal offense.
i.e. Anybody who has played in a bowl game so far outside of Navy.

Catch-22? We don't throw it enough to even have a catch-22. Maybe catch-11.

We had some bad luck that year in terms of player development. I would have liked to have seen the 2010 D with the 2009 O.

Our offense is intricate by design. Hard for a young QB to master. Give Jennings another year and see how he does.

Not checking down from #83 and trying to force it to him in double or triple coverage is not safe. We can chalk up Harris' season to bing a true frosh and lacking the playbook knowledge that AJ had already gained with a yr in the system. That being said, it'll be one interesting spring/fall watching the incumbent vs. The more physically gifted player. As frustrated as I get with Miles' stubbornness, if BH doesn't take the reigns, we may just have to put it on him.

It certainly will. Trends suggest that our QB needs two years in the system before he will be a successful QB. Harris could be the first since JR to buck the trend.

How hard is it to recruit a qb that can complete 65% of his passes? THATS ALL I HOPE FOR...

Why don't you show me how many SEC QBs did this this year? Or the last time an LSU QB accomplished this?

Our offense is shite. When Air Force and GT can have better passing numbers than us I put that a lot more on the scheme than AJ

What do you think our scheme is?

Try to wear teams out by running and win in the 4th quarter. What could go wrong with that strategy?

This!!! No rub routes, picks, bubble screens, etc. also, our offense is predicable .... run up the middle twice and then we are faced with 3rd and long and an obvious passing down frequently. Everyone knows it's a pass and it's the QB and O-lines fault if it is not successful.

And no part of this is a consequence of not having a QB the staff trusts to stay ahead of the chains?

We DID run a rub/pick for Diarse against TAMU and it left him wide open for a touchdown! Now.....why we did not try that earlier in the year who knows.

If Jennings wasn't Jeff Driskell bad then you might have a point. 3/4 of the way through the season Harris had more TD passes than Jennings did..
