My lil man is wanting to get into squirrel hunting pretty badly. I wanna get him a 410 but dont want the cheap rossi model cause it kicks like a mule. I want to get him something he can hang on to for years to come. Something someone has that they been thinking of parting with. Can any of you guys help me out?

How little is he? Would a 20ga semi be out of the question? That's something he would use for the rest of his life. I don't think there are very many middle of the road 410s made. I started with the crack barrel, probably like most people here.

I grew up on a savage bolt action .410 with box mag. Great gun. Killed lots of squirrels as a kid with it.

Get some reduced recoil shotgun shells, deciding between high brass and low brass is not good enough...

Remington 1100 comes in a 410, but it is costly. I would look at one of the pumps or even a bolt 410. I got both about the age of your son (in the late 60's) and still use for squirrel hunting.

I apologize for not being OB rich and not really wanting to spend that much. I'm wanting to buy a lil crack barrel youth model.

the advice on the Mossberg is spot on, it isn't that much more and you will be happy with it for a lifetime. The single barrels have such limited functionality.

I look forward to putting the Winchester pump .410 our family has in the hands of my kid soon. I believe there have been 6 of us introduced to shotguns with that little dude.

Then I will give him my HR crack barrel 12. Test his manhood, I am still a little nervous to pull the trigger.
