I'll give you 650, and I want the same gun.

While I am not a fan of this particular style, if you're going to go that direction, nice build, good budget - but, I can't rate it for you until you can say how it shoots for you.
I mean, it doesn't matter how good looking the hammer is - if it won't drive nails, it's a paperweight.

I'm very torn between a red dot and an Acog right now. Both are about $250

Does not compute

Paid a little extra for the 9-1 twist and chrome lined barrel. NB BCG was extra as well but I've read that they wear better.

Depends on the shooting - but, I'm an old school iron sights guy - for an AR - typically, red dot is going to be a better way for general purpose, carbine shooting, over the ACOG, which is a more specialty product (a purpose built scope, rather than a purpose built sight).

I agree he's probably going to be out more for an acceptable ACOG than red dot.

I am leaning towards the red dot with some flip up irons. Laser as well for underneath.

A good ACOG is going to run 1K+

Your getting a fake ACOG for $250 - I would go 1x4 on your set up but that's just me.

Definitely looks like an AR

Yall talking about a mil spec trijicon RCO? Love mine.

Yeah. Y'all right. Not a real ACOG. The scope I was looking at was a 4.1. I don't know shite about these guns tbh but am excited to learn. That's what I have Y'all for.

Nice flat top! That upper was probably $500 a year ago.

Well it could use some optics so 0/10...
But in all seriousness it's a good looking piece. I'm not huge on the quad rail handguard especially with a barrel that long because you won't use all the space. But it's still free-floated so your barrel should be very accurate.
I highly recommend you put a scope on here rather than a red dot or an ACOG. With a 18"-20" barrel (can't tell what length it is, but it appears long) you can increase your effective range with some magnification. Here's my 20" that can shoot 1/2" groups all day. But it wouldn't be possible to obtain this good of accuracy without my scope on top.

Thanks for the compliment Bap. It's a 16" barrel. 9-1 twist chrome lined. I'm hoping for some 1" @ 100 yard groups once I get me a good optic. I didn't want to go the built route for my first. I'm very particular about my firearms and want to know each little bit of the workings and build of them.

A 9-1 twist barrel would be way to fast and produce poor accuracy with any 5.56 ammo ...However, if it's 1-9 twist it should shoot the lighter 5.56 loads just fine (55-65gr). I'd go red dot, I believe I remember you wanting this for HD (and ...maybe shooting pigs?). But a scope would be a terrible idea for HD. A fighting rifle is setup to shoot minute-of-man/animal/steel gong, not shooting .5 MOA groups. Build a 20"+ HBAR if you want an AR for tight groups at distance.
