Should I be worried about NO on MLK weekend?

I've been to NO about 5 or 6 times and had an absolute blast every time. I think we all realize that racial tensions in the past month or so have been a little amped up. And new orleans is...well, new orleans. Not to mention the recent stabbing epidemic that's been going on there. I'll be with a group of 11 other 20something white dudes in the french quarter all weekend of MLK weekend.

Should I have anything to worry about? Should we carry any protection? Or should everything be fine? I would just hate to be the victim of some random knockout game or stab session that weekend.

Three weekends to stay out of New Orleans if you're afraid of blacks

If you want to be anonymous, cover yourself in a white bed sheet with two eye holes to see where you're going.

I'm not "afraid of blacks". Not in the least bit. But the black people I interact with on a daily basis are likely a little bit different than the ones that will be in the french quarter. Also, my main point was that it will be MLK weekend, a point of pride I assume for blacks, in a time where black/white tension is at an extreme high.

Also what is essence weekend

Ignorant of what? I already said I've been there multiple times and had a completely awesome time. My whole question centered around it being MLK weekend, since I've never been there at that time.

Are you really going to base whether you go or not on the opinions of perfect strangers? BTW, no one can answer this question.

New Orleans is surprisingly isolated from most of that nonsense. Protests and shite around here have been mostly white hipsters.

Just treat it like you would any weekend in the Quarter. Stay together, keep your wits about you, and don't wander down empty back streets.

One crazy lady poking people with something is a stabbing epidemic?

Look, I won't lie and say the French Quarter is entirely safe. But you dont need to worry about someone running up out of the blue and gutting you.

Good god.
Why would MLK weekend be a problem?

No, since I'm 100% going. It's a bachelor party and hotel and flights are already booked. We are all absolutely going.

My question was, if you'll reread the OP, asking if this weekend will be different than a "normal" weekend.

Let's just put it this way.....

During MLK weekend in Nola, someone will get shot. Someone will get stabbed. Someone will get randomly knocked the frick out.

Will you end up being one of those people?

Time will tell.....
