Never looked into them. The commercials feel like a scam. How much has your friend been winning?

It's not a scam at all. You put money in and then depending on the sport you set up, it can be a weekly or daily fantasy lineup. Obviously NFL you get once a week, but basketball/baseball/hockey you can have multiple entries a week. I'm sure there is a withdrawal limit, but I have never taken any of my money out so i don't know how that whole process works.

they take out 10% your of winnings when you cash out.

also, if you win more than $600 at a time they have to notify the IRS I think.

It's not a scam. I've won over $10k since I began in September. I play every day. Most days it's a slow bleed but when you win a huge tournament it more than makes up for those days.

The NBA just signed on to take an ownership stake in Fanduel. They wouldn't be getting into bed with a sketchy, fly-by-night operation. It's only a matter of time before daily fantasy sports overtakes the traditional fantasy sports format in popularity.
