One personal aspect of this for me at least is that my grandfather served as a tanker in the 4th Armored Division which was the spearhead of Patton's drive north to relieve the American forces encircled in Bastogne.

I find it very brilliant of Patton to see history repeating itself in Europe and have several divisions preparing for a counter attack before the Germans even began. He was able to attack with two divisions in 48 hours and that likely was what lead to the Allies winning the Battle of the Bulge.
