great idea IMO

Darth has a lot of points I DO NOT agree with. As a poster I do not always like him, but his history threads and military posts are usually very informative and are things I always read in their entirety.

Ok, I'm going to make this very clear for you.

You posted about Gen. McAuliffe. Someone downvoted it. You then went on to explain that your grandfather was in the war. NO OTHER post was downvoted and you were butthurt because "someone downvoted and my grandfather is dead". I was merely explaining that the only post that was downvoted was the OP, which had NO information about your grandfather.

I promise I wasn't being a dick, you're the one flying off the handle.

My comment about someone down voting my grandfather was not because of the down vote to my first post, I was commenting on the down vote they put on my following post where I did mention my grandfather and his role in the Battle of the Bulge.

Chill out and read all of DVs past threads...They all turn into his family and his hard upbringing..He is the only one on the OT who has lost someone, and one of only two tank drivers in the army...

He will buttstomp you..

DV..I have taken your pictures out of rotation..Kind of weird that you sent them to me, then RAd me for using them..

I downvoted BECAUSE of that...You made the thread about you...

Glad to see it still "doesn't bother you"though

Mentioning a personal connection to the subject of my own thread is "making it about me" to you? I guess anytime there is a thread about something and someone gives a personal perspective that's them making the thread about them then, right? Get the hell out of here with your weak troll horseshite you fricking liar. At least be honest, you're just looking to be a dick. Well you've been highly successful in that regard.

Great thread... I've heard this story numerous times but it never gets old. I actually just read mention of it again while reading Killing Patton.

To your grandfather

What sucks is that the guy starts an interesting thread, had some great responses (like the Toye quote and the link to the Army Times article), and it gets ruined before its off page one.

Maybe yankeeundercover is being sincere about his confusion, but the downvoting and petty attacks are typical of any DV thread. It's fricking ridiculous.

If you actually believe that's what I was doing, then you're a fricking idiot. But do go on, please spell out how I was making this thread about me.

Sad but true. I was looking forward to a good thread discussing the Battle of the Bulge until the usual cast of trolls that are allowed to run rampant on the OT came in and hijacked yet another thread.

To some of the cool kids it is. They seem to hate when people make personal connections about things or talk about life experiences, yet most of them spend the bulk of their posting IMing.. And sharing personal info..

A viscous circle is what it is.

I've heard that's a good book. I need to pick it up.

Thanks. I wish I knew more about what his experience was in WWII. Sadly he died a few years before I was born so all I know for sure about him is he served as a tanker in the 4th Armored Div from a little after Normandy until the end of the war.

Because of you, not me. You're the one hijacking the thread.

I liked it. I need to do some more research into some of the claims... like people wanting Patton dead. I could see the Russians wanting him gone though b/c he was an outspoken critic of Russia and Communism.

Definitely was. As I mentioned, I'm a veteran too and wouldn't think of being so disgusting as making a joke about their service.

If you ever get the chance and are in the area, you need to visit the Patton Museum of Armor at Ft. Knox. in addition to an extensive collection of historically significant tanks, they have a huge collection of personal artifacts from Patton as well..

LINK

(ETA: I apologize to the OT for once again making my own thread about me again seeing that I've visited the Patton museum in the past)

I guess it was a misunderstanding on both our parts. You misunderstood which of my posts I was talking about and I though you were degenerating my grandfather's service. I apologize for the misunderstanding on my part.
