The OT would be scared to walk down Freret pre-Katrina. Now they can't afford to live there.
Yep.
If someone who left N.O. in the mid 90's came back to see the N.O. of today, I think they would be fcking amazed.
The bywater, marigny, freret, oak, and even the irish channel have undergone major improvements. I freaking love riding my bike around some of these areas and seeing all of the renovations and construction going on and new businesses popping up all over.
And I do agree with many of the loons I normally wouldn't side with. I'm cool with the idea of the national guard coming into the quarter for a minimum of a year. Put a guy with a big arse gun on every freaking corner from 10PM till 6AM.

And don't forget the lower 9th.
The issue with the Guard or State Police is money. For real coverage of the quarter you would need at least 60-70 fulltime people and that's expensive. I'm pretty sure after Katrina the State was able to use fed money to pay those cost.

I have only been to N.O. once since Katrina. My family has a crypt at St. Roch. Every funeral I've gone to there required a police escort to safeguard cars and attendees. What are the odds that I could safely visit the cemetery now? Serious question.
