I think either can do it. Without seeing them in practice, I personally value experience over talent.. And probably favor Jennings because nobody gives him a chance at this point.
He is a great example of a Tiger and I'd hate for his reputation to linger the way it is now.

quote:He is almost certainly a decent kid. LSU has had MANY decent kids who grew into awesome young me and yet, were pretty f'n bad college football players. AJ aint the first and he wont be the last, but he most certainly IS historically bad as major college QBs go.

Bad at football =/= bad person.

No, you didn't. If you can show me I'll be more than perceptive.

Given the talent and experience at every other position, that stat line would probably result in an undefeated season
I responded to THAT post with

I haven't looked it up but I'll bet the worst QB stat line to win a MNC in the last 20 years looks better than we can even realistically hope AJ can put up
Now sure, if all you did was read my post, you might give your response but that's why I QUOTED your fricking post for God's sake!
I mean, ya know, in order to put up a bad game IN the MNC, you sort of have to get there first.

That's not even the same post that you originally quoted.

Well hell. It appears I accidentally replied to the wrong post.
So, I concede.
That said, YOU argued that the given stat line would be "all we need" and I challenge you to find ANY examples of a QB leading a team to the promised land with a stat line anywhere close that.

get it fine. Jennnigs will likely never put up the numbers Mett did. We don't need him to.

This is comical. I haven't looked it up but I'll bet the worst QB stat line to win a MNC in the last 20 years looks better than we can even realistically hope AJ can put up. But, somehow, you delusionally think we'll be the first.

The point in this entire thread is that we don't need or want Jennings to lead us anywhere. Fournette and the defense will if we can get a bare minimum level of successful play from the QB.
As far as stats, I'm posting from a cell phone, so that's on you. Don't make a claim you're not prepared to back up. But JJ/JL showed you can get there without great QB play and McElroy showed you can win it.

Cite an example of any team in the last 20 years successfully following the model of a QB with the stat line you cited.
I mean, unless you think we're the only guys who've ever had a good defense with a goal of game manager QB.
I'll even accept teams that LOST in the MNC. Show me one that got there with a QB running the stat line you provided as "good enough".

I don't but the key word for both of us is think. No one has any way to know for sure.

Typically I do as well. Unless the talent gap is too large to ignore. I don't know if Harris is that much more talented at the QB postion. I would like to see him get a fair shot to see if he is better or worse.

Everyone loves the underdog. I can respect that.

He is in fact a great Tiger. He gives everything he has and hasn't hung his head when he's had plenty of reasons to do so. I hate that he has performed so poorly, but the fact remains that he has been possibly the worst statistical QB at LSU since one of the Jamie Howard years. If they are not going to change the Offense, and they are going to put them in almost impossible situations to succeed, my opinion is to go with the super talented kid that could possibly make something out of nothing. All I want is a QB to enter week 1 and play well. Not well enough not to lose, but well enough to actually compliment your D and not put them in positions to have to win every single game for you.

2011 LSU
2011 LSU's QBs put up a stat line SUBSTANTIALLY better than the one you said would be "good enough".
I looked. In the BCS era, the worst two QBs to win the title game as far as stat lines go were Craig Krenzel and Tee Martin. BOTH of whom performed MUCH better than the stat line you said would be "good enough".
If LSU managed to get there with a QB stat line of

To be fair, they combined for the following:
61.7% 2,043 yds 7.6 ypa 20 TD's 5 Ints
JJ added 263 yds rushing and 3 TDs
This year we will have a better Oline (hopefully the reports are true Alexander and Hawkins are coming back), a better lead RB, and potentially better WR's. (Randle + ODB and Landry as little kids vs. Dural + Dupre + Diarse + Quinn) If either QB puts up those, 2011, stats I feel very confident we are one of the four next year. Our D, while not at the level of 2011, will be an absolute force if we return Kwon and Hunter. Shutdown secondary, Best LB core in forever, and a deep and effective DL. Again, we are hoping against all odds that our QB can just be pretty good.

To be fair, Jennings won't be a full-time starter either.
I could see them to combine for
54% 1800 yards 7.9 ypa 18 TDs 7 INT
We may throw the ball LESS than we did this year. Fournette, Williams, Guice, Brossette, Ducre.... They'll be destroying teams if we get our OL back. Consider in 2011 our RBs were Ware and Ford.

hell, this year LSU could have been 10-2 with a NOT AWFUL QB.
that is why I said Les better get to the playoffs 2015. I think two more 9-3s (2015 and 2016) will get him pelini'd in december 2016.

It would be a colossal letdown if LSU finished 9-3 next year. Our schedule is ridiculously backloaded. Should enter the Bama game 8-0 with games remaining at Bama, Ole Miss, aTm, and Arky.
We beat two of those teams THIS year and we should at least split Bama and Arky.
So, yeah, my hopes are high.

I think we will have to. First off, that stat line won't be possible unless we do. Secondly, we will win 9-11 games as the D will be elite from the start. But we won't go into Bama and win trying to run it down their throat.
quote:

Except when they are playing equal talent and they are putting 9 in the box. We have to keep that extra Defender or 2 occupied elsewhere.

RB will be improved, but we had a great OLine this year as well. Our best lineman, the best in the SEC, will be gone. We still couldn't run well enough to offset our pathetic passing Offense.
Something else to consider. While I fully expect next years D to contend for best in the country, they very likely won't be on the level of the 2011 team. Not sure any unit ever will be.
