Why do texas high school teams only play 80 yd fields?

also the width of the field is not as large...why is this?

Link?
Widths are supposed to be regulation, but I've seen some insanely narrow fields to accommodate tracks around the outside.

I was just flipping through channels the other night and noticed they brought in the sidelines several yards...no link

They should be 100 yards long no matter what.

You can't just make things up and expect people to believe you.
Are you insinuating that Texas HS FB is similar to AFL or what?

they most certainly did from what I saw
it was some sports channel and they had on the Road to the CHampionship and they were recapping all the texas state championship games in Jerrys world
the goal lines were brought in, the endzones started at each 10 yd line and the sidelines weren't the normal size
the entire field was shorter

They only do that for 8-man football which developed in extremely rural areas of Texas for obvious reasons

that's what I thought too but it wasn't

they are probably trying to hype up TEXAS FOOTBALL more with better stats.
the state of Texas is dying to be respected but no one will ever give a shite.

was it at a small school? perhaps it was an 8-man or 6-man football field
8-man football... generally played at small schools

The main difference between 11-man and eight-man football is most notably the elimination of three players. It depends greatly on the type of formation used, but the eliminated players are commonly two offensive tackles and a wide receiver on offense and two defensive backs and a defensive lineman on defense.
The size of the playing field is often smaller in eight-man football than in eleven-man. Some states opt for a smaller, 80-yard-long (73 m) by 40-yard-wide (37 m) field (which is also used in six-man); Oklahoma has some schools that use the 100-yard (91 m) field, while most use the 80-yard field.

Out in the west Texas town of El Paso.. I fell in love with a Mexican girl.

At the lowest level in Texas with the smallest schools, they play 7-on-7, I think. So maybe that's what it was? That's definitely not the norm for Texas HS Football
Edit - Someone beat me to it

I have never heard of this.

They play on shorter fields when they play 6-man football in smaller towns.
40-yard line is midfield.
