My illogical emotional response is that it's abhorrent. Almost every part of me wants to say it's objectively evil.
The reality though is that that response is entirely dictated by when and where I was born, who I was raised by and what I was told as a child. Logically, I know we're just another animal on this earth and not one of us has ever lost sleep about a crocodile ripping apart a baby wildebeest. So we have higher order thinking and executive functions, so what? Our intelligence didn't suddenly make FGM or murder or anything else an inherent universal evil.
That being said, morality does have an evolutionary base. "Not killing others in my immediate group" has a mutual benefit for survival. It's why we see relative, primitive levels of morality emerge as we move up the chain of mammalian evolution. In that way, there is reason for making certain things "wrong" and illegal. Modern society has been constructed around basic ideas of working together and thus it would collapse if we all suddenly started adopting a purely logical view of morality. We'd go back to living in small groups and fighting off everyone else for food.

So, if you were taught by your mom that she should cut off your penis at age 8 that would be OK with you? Really?

That's because it is abhorrent.
There are objective morals no matter how much people try to explain it away with "we're just smarter animals" nonsense.
