How would playing UT in the Texas bowl have helped us in recruiting?

Imo it really doesn't. There isn't a single recruit in texas who thinks that UT is a better team than us, has been recently, or will be soon, so what do we have to gain? They're decision is based on a lot more than who they think would win head to head. Plus I think the possibility, even if small, of losing to ut far outweighs the benefits. Winning convincingly would just be maintaining the status quo.
Stomping ND would probably help us recruit nationally more than beating UT would help us recruit in texas. And losing would hurt us a hell of a lot less.
On top of that, texas has a considerably better defense than ND. The game would be low scoring and feature two run first offenses with "mobile" yet inept qb's and would probably be about as exciting to high school recruits as a rerun of the 9-6 bama game.

Playing anywhere doesn't help with recruiting anymore. Games are all nationally televised now, it's not 1990 anymore.

It wouldn't. LSU already has a presence in Texas. I think the recruiting angle is way over blown come bowl time.
I guess if we played in Rose Bowl it would help our California recruiting.

I am glad this has its own thread. I have mentioned this in other threads. This whole hysteria over going to a bowl in Texas helping recruiting is ridiculous and I have yet to have a single person give a good reason as to why it is such a big deal. It is a Rantard creation that people just recite because they have nothing of value to say.

People will argue it because Houston/East Texas is in our recruiting footprint and that it's a good last showing for recruits considering schools like A&M or Big XII schools. The game is also primetime.
The reality is that LSU is a brand name and East Texas is still an LSU stronghold. While the Music City Bowl is not a primetime game, most recruits will still be watching it. It's two high profile schools. This also gives us an opportunity to look at players in that region and also quick flights to the Carolinas for recruiting.

I never wanted LSU to play a 6-6 Texas team. Even at 7-5 Notre Dame is still Notre Dame and LSU will derive more from this matchup, both in how ESPN covers it, and in national fan attention.
If LSU couldn't have lucked into playing a higher ranked team, which would have been of optimal benefit to the program, Notre Dame is as good as we could have hoped for.

I agree. By this logic, LSU needs to play a bowl game in Monroe to reclaim ownership of NE Louisiana.

Texas is the second most populated state with largest high school football talent pool. The more exposure the better. I can't believe this is actually being argued. Talk to anyone in marketing about product exposure. Why in the world do beer companies, insurance companies, automobile makers, etc. pour billions into advertising when everyone already knows they exist? Saturate, saturate, saturate and win.

This is the exact reason why I didn't want us playing Texas. That would be a boring arse game. At least with ND, you get contrasting styles. Bowl games outside of the top few are just consolation games for teams who finished with 6 FBS wins.
Who wants to see a bland exhibition game?

No, not hardly. I can't say the same for you, who does nothing but fill these boards with ad hominems. You have an argument to make, make it; but don't reduce yourself to making personal attacks when you have nothing else to add. That is the true measure of idiocy.
Regardless, I don't need the agreement of you or any of the other rantards to make a sound point. And every coach I know agrees LSU needs every edge it can get right now to win some recruiting battles in the state.

Please tell me how LSU playing in the Texas bowl against a 6-6 team gains them any exposure they are missing out on? Its just another reason for you to cry about something.

Huh?
So you think that while the team is in Nashville preparing for the bowl game, the coaches will be "looking at players in that region" and catching "quick flights to the Carolinas" for some more recruiting?
Where in the hell do you people dream this stuff up?

The only bowl in Texas this year the recruits will be watching is the NC game

I didn't neccesarily agree with this theory, until I visited family in Dallas and talked with a younger nephew.
He told me A LOT of kids at his school are LSU fans. My theory is, from us playing over there so much, kids get to go to these games and watch lsu win, and some then grow up lsu fans.

Oh no doubt lots of LSU fans in Texas but not playing in the Texas bowl wont make them start not liking LSU. That is absurd.

So the mere presence of LSU in a bowl game within the state of Texas somehow magically gives LSU that edge.
I am glad I don't live in the world of fantasy and imagination that some of you inhabit.

I feel the same amount of wonder that you do as to how in the world this could affect recruiting.
When a kid commits to Arkansas and says "Man, I was on the fence, but seeing those guys in the Texas Bowl swayed me", then I will formally come here and apologize for being so dumb.
