Just Curious BIG 12 future

With the BIG 12 missing out on the CFP, what is more likely the break up of the BIG 12 or BIG 12 steals 1 SEC TEAM and one from PAC 12? Just a new thread start.

The Big 12 needs a conference championship game and twelve teams that are all competitive.
The SEC (outside of Vandy and Kentucky) all have relevent teams.
The Pac 12 is next in line followed by ACC and Big Ten.

neither. they just need to get a conference championship game or schedule harder out of conference games with other power 5 conferences

more than likely, if they were smart, they would go after a MWC team or a team like BYU or Memphis

I think a conference championship game would help in the future, but I don't think it would have helped this year, because they basically had a championship game Baylor (winner of the South) vs. Kansas St. (winner of the North.
What hurt them is Baylor's OOC schedule and Ohio St. domination of Wisconsin.
The committee took the easy route.
1) Quality wins among the teams were pretty much equal.
2) Ohio St.'s poor lose to Va. Tech was minimized by their dominating performance against Wisconsin.
3) By putting Ohio St. in the committee doesn't have to worry about the head to head discussions with Baylor / TCU.

Yep. BYU will be their primary target. Boise probably would have been at one time, but the bloom may be off the rose there, since they aren't really competing for national titles anymore. Colorado State may get a look. Memphis, Houston, and Cincinnati will as well.
I know there has been some chatter about this in Memphis lately. With Feunte breathing life back into the football program, and an always solid basketball team, they will get more than a passing look. There is potential, and they have the best all-around sport program of any commuter school in SEC territory. Another thing that people don't realize is the huge sports TV ratings that Memphis generates for a city its size. It routinely shows up in the top 10 markets for big sporting events, both college and pro. This is evidently the driving force behind them gaining traction over some other schools in bigger population areas.

You sure Wisconsin didn't take a dive...for the conference?

Probably not, BUT you can never be sure.

I think they pick up Houston and/or SMU. BYU would be a good pick up as well.

Wouldn't it be so much easier for the NCAA to allow a 10 team conference to have a playoff than to expand a conference?

The Big12 doesn't have nearly the juice to do this. Only a bitch program is going to choose to deal with the UT conference. They will get Cincinnati and UCF/USF/UConn/Boise St probably.
I don't think BYU wants to be in a conference no matter how much they like beating the shite out of Texas.

The Big 12 adding a conference championship game would be a knee-jerk reaction to this season. Baylor/TCU would likely be in the save division, so they wouldn't have met in the conference championship game. Having that game may or may not have got them in over Ohio State this season.
Next season it may work in their favor that they DO NOT have a game. It was just that the situation this year did not work in their favor.
It would be funny if they added the conference championship game because of this season and then next year they end up missing out because of the conference championship game.

They will expand but it won't be from either of those two conferences. I think the ACC has pretty much been solidified as well. The likely candidates are from non P5 schools which leave you teams like Cincinnati, BYU, a Florida school or potentially a Memphis, Tulane, ULL, Houston or SMU depending on how they view additional TV sets and locales.
Their problem will be their TV contract and the LHN presenting a major obstacle for increasing proportional TV revenues from adding additional schools. Does anyone actually think 2 of those schools are worth the ~ 20 million per school the Big XII gets based on their contract. They basically got to keep their 12 school contract and split it over 10 schools which is why they're competitive now. Plus WVU and TCU both got limited shares upon entry so they could skew the dollars to look more competitive.
All in all, this is a conference controlled by Texas and they really don't give a shite about anyone else. In fact, there are probably a lot of people in Austin who are pretty glad two major conference rivals got left out because they don't ever see that happening to them. They probably feel they would have been on the inside looking out simply because they're Texas.
ETA: They can't simply just have a conference championship game. They have to get 12 teams or get a waiver.

All of this is exactly true, and why no team with a pot to piss in would join that conference.

THIS is was it's all about. If UT wants to expand the BIG12/10, then it will happen. And until UT gets screwed it's not going to happen.

Does no Big12/10 team in the playoff cost UT money? That is what they're considering today...

Looks like BYU is making a pitch to join. They are independent now. The SEC and ACC rules for scheduling (and other conferences soon to follow) are hampering BYU's ability to schedule quality opponents.

Meh, you know how uneven the money split is in that league? UT does just fine.
