Suddenlink busted me for torrenting.

I was being careless with my downloading (not using a VPN) so they shut down my Internet. When I called to get it back they gave me a virtual slap on the wrist and then tripled my bandwidth for free.
So, in essence, the lesson I learned today was to not steal, because your cable company will give you free shite.

This happened to me a few years back. If I remember correctly it was a Disney movie that I downloaded. What excuse did you use? I used the trusty "family visiting from out of town excuse, had to be one of them".

Suddenlink seems to be the worst regional internet provider in terms of sending out these letters and giving slaps on the wrists. They are such a second rate shite company. We have all of our services with them (cable, phone, internet and alarm) and are thinking of canceling everything and going with ATT.

I know nothing about this, so please answer a stupid question for me.
How are they able to tell the difference between torrents and streaming from like Netflix or Hulu? My son and I stream movies and shows daily and never had a problem, but I'd be pissed if my internet got shut down for a service I pay for.

BitTorrent on Cox for 8 years (Limewire for some of that time) and never been busted... yet. I don't torrent much though. Usually get all my movies on the rig from other guys taking the risk.
