Mary Landrieu quote about Obamacare

quote:
“….We did not wake up one morning and declare this the law. The people of the United States declared this through us as their Representatives. If they do not like it, they can unelect us. Believe me, they will have a great chance because I am up for reelection right now. They will be able to do that. But that is the way you do it.”
Is this country great, or what?

So let it be written, so let it be done.

Kind of how it did get passed

If they would have listened to the voters they wouldn't have passed that shite law and she just might be the Senator from LA in 2015.

No doubt about it, IMO.
I wouldn't vote democrat if someone had a gun to my head, but I would to have been so enthralled to get her out of there if she wouldn't have aligned herself with Obama.

I hope the cause was worth it for Mary. I think she wins if not for her support of ACA.

The thing about it is this.
She will probably get a good cushy job making OT money somewhere & become a multi-million $$$ lobbyist just like her partner in crime, john breaux.
AND she will get the best of health care while we, the peons, will languish under a crappy healthcare system that SHE helped usher in.

i wouldn't go that far... take that out and her 97% Obama ads maybe become 90% or so, but still unacceptable. this state is too red for her nowadays and Obamacare isn't the only dumb thing he's done

I kige this. I can't think of any other vote she cast during her career that would cost her significant support. It's the only one that was both against her constituents' wishes and important enough to affect the election.
The quote in the OP is exactly right though--members of Congress are basically trustees. We hire them to make decisions and if we don't like those decisions, we hire someone else.

That's the problem. We vote them to be our mouthpiece in DC. Then they get there and become DC's mouthpiece to us. Wrong. She got sloppy and arrogant, thinking the masses wouldn't pay attention and forget like normal and vote for her.
This legislation was too big and hated, but she couldn't see that from her ivory tower in DC.
Mary, you should have listened.

Really?
They why was it viewed unfavoribly by over 50% of the population? Also, I didn't realize that the House and Senate ran on the platform of passing Obamacare in the 04/06/08 elections
Also funny that less than 50% of Senators who voted for Obamacare are still in office.
