Abolish weekly rankings by the committee

Nobody is throwing nearly as big of a fit right now if the committee doesn't have to release weekly rankings. Those guys probably screwed up by putting TCU at #3 last week. But there is clearly good reasoning for their Top 4.

You don't release some kind of ranking so people have an idea of who is in/out and you'll have an all out riot. You can't just not release anything at all.

If the rankings never came out on Tuesday of this week, there would be absolutely no one complaining with what we saw on the field yesterday. The four best teams are competing for a National Championship.

They do weekly rankings because it brings in $$. But the weekly rankings should not hold too much weight; of the committee feels they have made an error they should be able to "correct" it even if it means dropping a team that won a couple of spots.

First ranking was way too early. So meaningless.

Exactly.

I agree. No weekly rankings. It will make the suspense even greater.

I like that they aren't afraid to switch things up. Too often rankings are "sticky" and people want to stay w/ early choices.
I think the committee got the right top 4 and this is an improvement.

this is all 100% right
i don't get why people are acting like last week's rankings are the bible
a major problem with the traditional polls is a reluctance to move teams, esp based on preseason rankings. people are ignoring that

Yup. Like people got used to Florida State being low, but tons of people would have been shocked to see them at #3. That would have been a bold move. Instead, the committee is being grilled for keeping them in after having them at 4. It feels like there is more to complain about with the rankings, which wasn't what many thought would be the case.

Rankings drive interest, and provide fodder for debate and discussion; debate drives viewership; viewership determines dollars, long term.
