Am I supposed to like any of the characters I have met so far? I can't stand any of them. Am I supposed to care that the main character has cancer, when he barely acknowledges it himself? Am I supposed to care that his wife is pregnant when she's such a bitch to everyone around her? Her sister and BIL absolutely suck. I really just want to fast forward through every scene the wife and sister have. I have mild interest in Cranston's meth dealing partner, but it's not enough to make me wonder what happens to him next. Cranston himself just grosses me out. When do I start caring about these people???

It's the #1 problem in the show, and would have made it better to have someone worth a damn.

But this is also the place where opinions differ mostly. I can't stand shows where no one is at least sympathy-worthy. It's just a waste of time to watch people be terrible people continually over and over again. The show gets better, and it is "high quality," it just isn't interesting television in the long run.

I can appreciate the craft and the quality and all that good stuff, but the show is just cold-hearted and devoid of any positivity.

frick that. I hate when shows have some character everyone loves that learns lessons or teaches people shite or is the happy ending guy. Life sucks and then you die. I like my TV to reflect that. Of course I also have seen Requiem for a Dream a billion times and love that movie.

It's fake scripted entertainment.

Unbelievable.

P.S.

How many times have you watched Frozen? I bet you love that movie.

I agree. And if you give me a bunch of a-hole characters, at least make the characters crazy or funny assholes.

Translation: You love cookie cutter television with characters teaching warm and fuzzy moral values and stereotypical bad guys who always get what's coming to them.

And while there may not be many "good guys" in BB, there are certainly sympathetic characters. By the show's end, I had a lot of sympathy for Hank and Jessie. Mike had a skewed moral compass but he got a raw deal.
