What I'd like to know is why we didn't make these types of moves in the offseason. Even letting Casspi go, a move that didn't seem like a big deal at the time, looks pretty foolish in hindsight. If Monty was so tired of teaching guys that don't know the system, hire more assistant coaches before you keep bad players just because they have Corporate Knowledge.

Monty wanting corporate knowledge does not explain Salmons v. Casspi. I think we have to stop using that as reasoning for the poor offseason moves.

Casspi didn't want to play here though.

Salmons vs. Casspi was not ever a decision. Casspi was on a minimum contract that would have been acquired via trade. Salmons was a FA signing to a much larger than minimum exception a few weeks after the aforementioned trade went down, and after being turned down by at a minimum Richard Jefferson and Alan Anderson.

If the Pelicans thought they could get someone better than Casspi with the Room Level Exception, which doesn't seem an unreasonable assumption considering Casspi was on a minimum deal, then the decision was that Miller and Babbit would make better backups than Casspi to the better SF they could acquire with a $2.7 million exception. Therefore bad players with Corporate Knowledge deemed > Omri Casspi
