Did you even read the article? At the time, he was already crippled with schizophrenia. He had been hospitalized 14 times. These were the acts of a sick person. His ex-wife - the daughter of his victims - has pled for clemency. Perhaps that's because she understands debilitating mental illness and its effects. This wasn't some gang banger who pretended to be crazy at trial. Basically nobody disputes that he is and was extremely mentally ill.

"It certainly would not give comfort to Sonja Alvarado, his former wife and the daughter of his victims, who filed a petition stating that because of his paranoid delusions at the time of the murders, he should never have been tried."
I really dont see what executing him will do. I'm not interested in executing people who are clearly and deeply mentally ill. It's amazing how some of the self-described 'conservatives' here put so much faith in our massive and overextended criminal justice system. Y'all never want to admit that an innocent person could have been executed or that an execution may not have been justified. I'm sure you were the same people saying "just execute him already" when Cameron Todd Wilingham was on death row, and now 20 years later after the fact, y'all condemn it.
