I'm wanting to get my girlfriend a rifle that doesn't kick to bad. This weekend she missed a nanny and got popped with the scope shooting my 7 mag. I felt bad, but thought she could handle it being she killed a 8 point with it last year. Anyway I really like the 7mm-08 caliber and wanted to know how bad the browning bar mark ii kicked? I figured with it being a semi automatic rifle it would be less recoil then a bolt action. That leads me to my next question, how well does it group out to about 150-175 yards? Any opinions or thoughts would be appreciated.

I know Carson works at bowie and knows his stuff, i was thinking this rifle with a meopta meopro on it. Thoughts?

we were talking about getting scoped the other day. dont wish it upon anyone

I'm not sure they make the Safari in 7mm-08. Pretty sure the only short action caliber they make it in is the .308. you can get a ShortTrac though. I haven't shot one, but they have a great feel and balance to them, and people love them. 7mm-08 would be a great caliber for the gf

Tell your gf to quit being a pussy!

It's a great caliber for women and kids!

Thought about the 25 06?

I felt bad, but she was more upset she missed the deer. It was her first miss and first time getting bit by the scope, so it was a rough hunt for her. I initially jumped to these guns because they are a fine looking gun. I need to come talk in person and try to decide what to get her. Someone told me the bar 270 safari has very little recoil as well. I'm open to that or 308, but just want something with little recoil, that groups well, and is comfortable for her. She won't be shooting further that 160 yards with it.

Browning Shorttrac 7mm-08

Badass gun.

You can also look into the reduced recoil loads a lot of manufacturers are making now.

I let my wife use my Browning Bar .308 this weekend. She popped a doe through the heart and now wants one herself. She likes the fact of less recoil. Don't know if id buy her a $1200-1300 gun though lol.

I'm sure that would have gone over well in that moment. I honestly don't know a lot about that caliber, but I'm open to anything. It will only be used for whitetail and maybe hogs.

I personally love the caliber and gun. I've honestly dropped everything i've shot with that gun in their tracks. Including a 300 lb hog this past week

I would consider the 25 06 or a 243 as well. All three are great calibers for women.

Still want the wood duck?

My daughter has shot a 7mm08 since she was 13. Never had a problem with recoil.

I have an old 243, but I can't get it to group to save my life and I've tried 3 different types of ammo, cleaned it, tightened scope mounts, etc. I'm going to try and shoot a few behind the house. I've seen some flying and will give it a shot one evening soon. You're welcome to ride over and see if we can shoot a couple, but I can't promise any will even come in.

I honestly want the gun for myself somewhat, but she'll be using it when she's hunting. I guess it's just a good excuse at getting a new bad arse gun.

Have the longtrac in 30-06. We shoot 165 grain Sierra gamekings out of it. Rifle is awesome.

I have a 7-08 in a Browning BLR. It's my favorite gun by far. Have several other deer rifles but this one goes with me 99% of the time. I shoot 140 grain core lokt and its usually bang flop. It kicks a little but not bad at all.

Sounds good. I'll holler at ya one evening and see if we can at least scare a few birds.
