What Did Kenny Vacarro Do?

To deserve a penalty? Did I miss something? Why wasn't Smith flagged? I know it may not matter, we blew it, etc., etc., but I am curious.

He didn't really do anything

The refs fricked the entire 4th quarter. That pass interference call on Lewis was unacceptable when there is a clear rule for exactly what happened. idk if we win the game or not, but that could have easily gave us the ball back with a 1 possession game
The better team won the game, but I would have liked to see us with the ball at the end. We probably would have given up the yards for the FG anyways

I realize we suck, we blew it, we did not deserve to win, and all that, but..........
One or two plays easily dictate the outcome of a game, very possibly. You never know when a call goes one way or the other how it impacts what happens next.
I was curious about the late interference call when the feet got tangled up, too. I always thought that was incidental. Maybe I don't know squat.

It was incidental and Gruden and Tirico said it as well that they didn't agree on the PI.

nothing

It was one of the worst officiated games I've ever seen. That crew doesn't belong in the NFL.

Steve Smith commented on the brawl saying he had it out for Vacarro since last season in Carolina.. Kenny did nothing wrong today.

No offense, but you guys completely benefited on some horse shite calls too.

I don't think anyone is debating that. This crew was god awful.

Here is the official rule:
It isn't even a difficult call to make. One of the easier calls a ref gets
Which ones? The only one I can think of was the Graham and hands to the face, but I was working a bit during it
Also, I don't mind refs missing calls really. They are human. I do mind when refs create a penalty where there clearly isn't one. That PI was a call that should never be missed
Then again, I think that all PI's and personal fouls should be confirmed by NYC. PI is the most ridiculous rule in the books with a theoretical penalty of 99 yards.
I'm still wondering what Jimmy Graham will have to have done to him to get a Pass Interference called in his favor. He's had 2-3 called against him the past few years and zero called on the defense in his entire career

The early Will Hill call, that completely terrible "reception" call (he bobbled it the entire time), the brutally bad roughing the passer call are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

I do hope one day refs can look at PI calls through replay and see if there is indeed a penalty or not.
I've seen enough screw over a team that shouldn't be losing because of it and help a team that has no reason to win.

The early Will Hill call,
It shouldn't have been illegal use of the hands. I thought it was easily illegal contact live though if he was past 10 yards. I'll need to take a look at it on NFL Rewind.

that completely terrible "reception" call (he bobbled it the entire time),
That was really close. He had possession when he rolled over right when his knee was hitting out but his elbow was in. I'll reserve my judgement when I see it on NFL Rewind. Live I thought he was out.

That was undoubtedly roughing the passer. Do I like the rule? No. It is absolutely roughing the passer in the NFL today. He stepped into him and made contact above the neck and into his chin/facemask

Hitting the QB's helmet will get a penalty every time. Even a slight hand slapping downwards on the QB's helmet will get called.
We have that called against us a whole lot (Akiem Hicks)

That was absolutely roughing the passer, he was late and put his helmet in the chin of Brees. That's a penalty every damn time

It violated several different sections of the roughing the passer rule
quote:
PASS LEAVING PASSER’S HAND; ONE-STEP RULE
(1) Roughing will be called if, in the Referee’s judgment, a pass rusher clearly should have known that the
ball had already left the passer’s hand before contact was made; pass rushers are responsible for
being aware of the position of the ball in passing situations; the Referee will use the release of the ball
from the passer’s hand as his guideline that the passer is now fully protected; once a pass has been
released by a passer, a rushing defender may make direct contact with the passer only up through
the rusher’s first step after such release (prior to second step hitting the ground); thereafter the rusher
must be making an attempt to avoid contact and must not continue to “drive through” or otherwise
forcibly contact the passer; incidental or inadvertent contact by a player who is easing up or being
blocked into the passer will not be considered significant.
quote:
HITS TO PASSER’S HEAD AND USE OF HELMET AND FACEMASK
(3) In covering the passer position, Referees will be particularly alert to fouls in which defenders
impermissibly use the helmet and/or facemask to hit the passer, or use hands, arms, or other parts of
the body to hit the passer forcibly in the head or neck area (see also the other unnecessary-roughness
rules covering these subjects). A defensive player must not use his helmet against a passer who is in
a defenseless posture for example, (a) forcibly hitting the passer’s head or neck area with the helmet
or facemask, regardless of whether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle the passer by
encircling or grasping him, or (b) lowering the head and making forcible contact with the top/crown or
forehead/”hairline” parts of the helmet against any part of the passer’s body. This rule does not
OFFICIAL NFL PLAYING RULES 75prohibit incidental contact by the mask or non-crown parts of the helmet in the course of a
conventional tackle on a passer.
