Get install media.
Back up all of your data onto an external hard drive.
Wipe your internal drive and install 64-bit windows.
Copy your data back onto the hard drive.

Do you have a 64-bit processor?

You need to obtain a 64-bit installation, be it buying it or procuring from "other" methods.

Do you have BOTH a 64 bit processor AND more than 4GB of RAM.

If the answer is no then don't bother upgrading as you will see no benefit.

I know the answer is no because if you had more than 4GB of RAM you would already have 64 bit.

If you are not adding RAM to go over 4GB, then again... Don't bother.
