So he is not Elite.

he WAS elite, but not any more.

Glad you agree with everyone else.

Defense of what? I asked a question because some framed it the worst way possible. I never said it was elite.

Well that's the point of this thread no?

Miles being an elite coach in the SEC relative to other coaches since 2008.

The thesis of this thread, as framed, has been debunked on all accounts.

Saying this year is elite was never the point of this thread. Great comprehension skills you have though.

Except it hasn't. Your cherry picked stats have been debunked as much as this thread.

That's fair. I'd say he's "fallen off" a good bit. I think the comparison to Richt is pretty apt. We'll continue to win games but will rarely win the ones that we need to win to advance to divisional, conference, and National Championships. Bama, on the other hand, hasn't fallen off one bit since they started this run in 2008.

In Saban's seven completed seasons, they've been to five BCS bowls (3x MNC, 2x Sugar) and have lost three games by more than 7 points (USCe a couple of years ago, and Oklahoma and Utah in the Sugar Bowl). CLM is going to have to kick it into high gear to compete with that.

Please tell me how "elite" LSU has been since 2008.

I for one love playing in the Cotton Bowl, or Chik Fil A Bowl, or the Capitol One Bowl, or Outback Bowl.

LSU under CLM has made it to 2 NC games. 1 year we backed our way in with some kind of voodoo magic and won. Yippee for us, we should all be very excited about it. 2011 we came in, undefeated, undisputed as the best team in the country and BOOM. Saban made Les his bitch.

This year, we may be playing in the fricking Belk bowl, or the TaxSlayer Bowl for Christ sake.

That is NOT elite.

Saying the past SEVEN years, as a coach being elite, was the point of this thread.

...and that is wrong. He's sixth in the SEC. Middle of the pack - not elite

2010, and last year IMO were fall offs. Nothing like what we are currently experiencing, but they aren't immune to subpar results either.

If this is the standard, it will take a lot for anyone including Saban to match it.

Most of the guys on your list haven't been HC ion the SEc for seven years, which is why your numbers are useless. At some point that has to click in your head, right?

Who should have been there instead of us? Why should we not celebrate that title?

Using this stupid logic, Bama should not celebrate their 2011 and 2012 titles, since they both lost late in the season and needed other teams to lose to get back in.

The OP cherry picked the stats for me.

Since 2008 - check
SEC - Check
Justifying our COACH - check

So I compared our SEC coach to other SEC coaches in that timeframe.

2010 was a fall off, and they lost three games--one by 14 (to USCe), one by 3 (to us), and one by 1 (to Cam Newton). Last year they were one freak play away from another divisional title, another probable conference title, and a BCSNCG berth. And they destroyed everyone they played except for Auburn (the loss) and A&M.

Well they play in our division, so that's the standard. And I don't see any signs of Saban slowing down. They replaced their 5th year senior QB with a retard and installed a new offense and are still favorites to win a fourth title in six years.

Aside from our own struggles on the field, Bama's success is a major source of concern for LSU fans. CLM can't mail it in just because he has a huge buy-out and expect decent results.

So NEWER coaches BUILDING programs are penalized for winning more than our "best coach ever" at an established program?

So I guess we SHOULD JUST throw out 2005-2007 from Mile's career stats too since he wasn't here seven years yet.

Like I sai, we should be excited about it.

But that doesn't makes Les elite

We can do that for us in 2012.

Well they play in our division, so that's the standard.

It's only the standard if Saban keeps that torrid pace up. I think the West is getting more parity every year, so a historic run like that will be difficult to duplicate even for him.

That's not me making an excuse for Miles to not do it. It's me saying I don't think anyone will have that kind of run over the next 7 years.
