If we cant re-sign Ingram

What are some viable options in your opinion? I just don't see our other 3 running backs being able to produce consistently. Sadly PT is getting older and Cadet isn't much of a threat. Test the draft? And if so, who would you like to see the Saints draft. Do you think Adrian Peterson would be able to be snatched up for a decent price? Thoughts.

We need some playmakers. Im getting tired of all these catch the ball and get tackled guys. With that said, I would really look into signing Beast Mode.

PT has actually been one of the best running backs at forcing missed tackles year in and out

Can we even afford him? We'd need to give up one of our guards and Colston I would imagine.

Only issue with PT is health. He is not an every-down back, you need someone to take the pressure off of him for those 3rd and short grinding yards. To me, we haven't had that guy since Ivory was traded.
Cadet is growing on me for the "CSP half-back role". He's not the best but he's mediocre and he fits the budget.
Honestly the UDFA market is probably the best place to find halfbacks in the rookie class IMO, if you aren't going for a feature back that is. And no, I have not forgotten about KR. He'd probably fill in as needed. I still think he has promise, but his vision needs to improve, much like Ingram's did the first couple of years. If he gets that, and works on his catching, I see no reason why KR couldn't be a feature back.

We need a feature back though. Ingram has been very nice in that role. Imagine someone like Jamaal Charles on our offense. I wish we could get Melvin Gordon. Shite would help a lot.

I agree but when you split carries its hard to become a true playmaker imo. Lynch would be awesome. The rest of our rbs just don't seem to have the durability. I don't care what anyone says, when we had one back (Ingram) that was tearing shite up is when we looked our best. We absolutely need a feature back.

I don't think there is anyway we could afford Adrian Peterson
Marshawn Lynch I'm thinking would likely be out of our budget also
I think we'd be best suited to re-sign Ingram at this point, unless if he tests the market and other teams put him in or near the $ category of someone like Lynch or Demarco Murray who will also be looking for a new contract

Saints should make an effort to sign him, but the probability that Ingram is A) frustrated with running back by committee here and B) feels he is worth more than a committee-member rate of pay is high. He wants to be a feature back, he's admitted that much publicly. I think there is a less than 10% chance that he is with us next year. It's a simple law of economics, if he wants to be paid like a feature back and the Saints won't use him in that role and pays him, then we are overpaying. If we make the conversion and start using him as a feature back, they would probably have to release/trade Thomas because of the amount of money being spent on just the backfield alone.

Lynch's mileage over the last several years suggests he's ripe for a breakdown.

Yeah I don't believe in going for big name RBs in free agency. It pays off for teams sometimes (like with Marcus Allen & KC), but more times often than not you are buying an old Porche that spends more time in the shop than on the road.

Draft someone from lsu
I agree. the league is peppered with players from LSU, having a good deal of success. The Saints have no players from LSU, and are stumbling. Draw your own conclusions.

I just don't feel any teams are gonna offer Ingram a big contract. He isn't a big receiving threat, has a little bit of an injury history himself and is in an offense where teams gear to stop the pass more so than the run playing the Saints.

There are very few one back teams. He will committee somewhere else.

He's good for a few check-downs and maybe a screen per game. He just isn't used in this capacity as much because we have players better suited for the receiving task at HB (Thomas/Cadet). He's perfectly fine at catching the ball.

He's been pretty good this year. Broken bones happen, apart from the finger injury he's been running healthy and he's only going to get better from here.

Nonsense. Teams who stop the run, win the game way more often than not. That's one of the most true statistics in football, up there with 3rd down conversion rate and turnover ratio.

I'm speaking of teams playing the Saints. I will edit that post. Teams are more concerned with Brees and Graham than our running game overall.
Eta: I agree he is a good RB, just don't think he is gonna get a big offer anywhere.

Wouldn't surprise me if the Colts or Jags go after him.

I just don't see the Colts offering him much. Jags, yea I could see a crappy team going after him.

Colts would. They have what, 1 more year with luck at a rookie rate and a 5th year option?
