i'm just posting what i've perceived... in my experience, both IRL and on this forum, it seemed to me, IMO, that many were rooting for him to win the position even though they hadn't actually seen him at practice or heard about his progression.... the only known factor was he was white and was in the running for the starting QB position at LSU...

Me thinks your perception is pre-conceived.
People are clamoring for BH and you don't assume race(cause you can't) but when they hope the white guy beats out Mr. So So, you assume race.
Maybe people just became concerned after the bowl game and hoped the other kid who had been in the program would turn out to be better(rather than hope to rely on the true freshman)?
You're seeing race because you EXPECT to see race.
