I tracked it and caught it, right side up, right above her head. There was still about an inch or two of coke in the cup when I caught it.

I had a georgia tech coed throw bourbon in my face once at Grant Field in Atlanta after an Auburn victory there a long time ago. Surprised me more than anything. I was with my grandfather and werent raising any hell or anything. Just leaving the stadium.

Wow. I don't see how people think that's okay.

Well lets examine commonly accepted definitions and conditions required to classify something as a "Tradition":

Merriam Webster Dictionary:

1) an inherited, established, or customary pattern of thought, action, or behavior

2) the handing down of information, beliefs, and customs by word of mouth or by example from one generation to another without written instruction

And my favorite from Longman Dictionary:

"Do not use habit when you are talking about actions or ways of doing things that have existed among a group of people for a very long time. Use tradition or custom.

Summary:

Seeing as how the cup throwing has been going on for many years now, and has been passed from one group of students to another many times, technically it is a "Tradition"

Now that we have established guidelines for a "tradition" what, in your mind, makes it "a great one"?

I consider myself a pretty fun person but you're telling me I'm lame for not wanting to get brained by a falling Coke cup. I'm just trying to understand why this is something you're so passionate about.

Before we just accept "tradition", I was in the Student Section for every game for 4.5 years and the flying cups were an anomaly. And when I say anomaly, I mean that fists were thrown when one hit your date and you could track down the asshat that threw it. Of course, we wore coat and tie and our women wore dresses. Maybe it is acceptable with the Norts and XXXL t-shirt crowd.

Here are a few reasons that conform with merriam-webster's definition of "Great":

1) The tradition is great in size and measure, as many students partake in the celebration.

2) The tradition is full of emotion, as it is great with excitement

3) The tradition is long continued, as it has been going on for a great while

4) The tradition is marked by enthusiasm, as the students are great on celebrating

You're trashy.

And to the idiot comparing staples to stitches, LOL.

Also I'm sure everyone remembers the cheerleader that got hit with the jack daniel's bottle and needed stitches a few years back.

A very small amount of people continuously partaking in potentially destructive behavior every game hardly counts as a tradition.

That sucks, but 4 stitches isn't that damn bad.

Leaving early, going to an ED/Urgent Care and paying for the visit when you were doing nothing to bring it on yourself sucks a bit.
