re: Veterans, what is your reply when some one thanks you? (today or anyday)

I humbled every time someone says this. Very thankful. When I get the opportunity I point out to them that my family (wife, two sons) are the true heroes. I do what I am trained to do. They are the ones who make the true sacrifices while I am away.

And for those individuals who have a sticker on their car saying their child or loved one serves, I take the time to say thank you. It is a sacred trust to lead them and I want them to know how thankful I am for the opportunity to serve with them.

I was never scared when I was getting deployed, I just worried about my family back home, worrying about me. Even though I said don't worry. Granted this was nearly 24 years ago, and I was not married or had kids.
