Having played no other DA game what made 1 so good and 2 so bad?
Posted on 12/24/14 at 10:55 am to Byron Bojangles III
The entirety of 2 took place in one single city.
There were maybe 4 dungeon designs , copy and pasted and retextured
Story was awful
Graphics were suspect at best
Origins basically had everything awesome about inquisition, but in 2009. So it was mind blowing. Giant world, great stories, cool characters, meaningful decisions, challenging combat

I assume you realized you need to have the person in your party to first activate the specialization.

Interesting tip.
Fade touched silverite negates the class restrictions.
Your mage or rogue can wear the heaviest armor if you make it with fade touched silverite.
If you can clear out that first keep in Emprise, you can farm silverite until you get lucky.
Not sure I am high enough level on my HARD play through to clear the keep but I might try it out. See how badly I get crushed in Emprise.

It seemed like, on my first playthrough, that the silverite was actually finite, and did not respawn like the other metals.
I just wouldn't waste too much of it on Tier 2 & 3 schematics, only to not be able to outfit your guys appropriately later. For my 2nd playthrough, I've been getting Cullen to farm the dawnstone/bloodstone constantly (since I'd get my arse kicked exploring there right now), and will use it on some lower level schematics b/c I know there will be more later.
ETA: Although, according to the SegmentNext link, the Silverite does respawn. It sure didn't seem like it the first time.

Na. On first play. I farmed the heck out of it in Emprise. Its all over the place on the road up the mountain through the little fortified positions.
I think all you need to do is go to skyhold, then back to reset although not 100% sure of that. I do know it isn't finite unless they make it finite on harder levels. On normal, it was not.
Although I might be getting silverite and dawnstone mixed up. The link above makes it sound like you can farm silverite in the area I mentioned.

Bout to start my 3rd play (I swear I'm gonna finish everything this time) I didn't load my DAO and DA2 stuff for the last one and I missed out on a lot of stuff. Now that I understand crafting a little better I won't waste so much good stuff on crappy shite.

You going to play nightmare?
In fact, you need to play nightmare which will force you to do everything to be able to level high enough to survive.

I don't know why I do that, I have done it in all games.
I am having a hard time getting some companion stories to fully open up and I don't know why, I talk to them and exhaust all the options.
I tend to stay away from the nightmare modes in games because I play to relax and have fun not make it feel like a job, but I understand some like the challenge.

Yeah, playing HARD, I have no interest in nightmare.
I think you need to make the right choices in conversation to open things up. It might be possible to block a quest by making a wrong choice.
They do it with romance so possibly you can screw up a companion quest by responding the wrong way.

Is there any game+ mode after you finish where you can carry over your character into a new game with a harder difficulty?

I tend to get bored once I know the story so I wait until the end to do the main quest line.
In the case of Skyrim, my 360 blew up.

I'm only a couple of hours into this -- why do I feel so underpowered? It seems like everything has an insane health pool and doesn't matter what weapon I use. I was killed by an invincible bear.
This is the first DA game I've played.

Bears suck. Toughest enemy you'll regularly encounter early on in the game. I would advise you get a horse and avoid them whenever possibel, unless you're just grinding for XP.
Just grind through the Hinterlands until about level 6 or 7, then you'll get some ability points, your world will open up, and you won't fell so underpowered.
You can start the Fallow Mire (swamp) around 6 comfortably.
