No. He only averaged 44 points as it was. That would mean that he would need at least 16 of his made shots per game to be behind the 3 point line. Take away his 10 or so points per game he made from free throws, and that would mean that ~90% of his makes were from further than 20 feet. So no.

Exactly. Pete averaged 44. Say he averaged 10 ppg from FT. That means 34 from the field or 17 made from the field. Even if all 17 of those shots were 3 pointers that would put him at 61.

The thinking is that knowing there was a 3 point line, he could have sat back and popped 3's all day. He was shooting from down-town without any benefit of a 3. With his ball handling and passing, the defense would have to pick their poison. 60 seems high, but 50 would be reasonable.
