As an educated black conservative, I hope you guys don't mind if I chime in even though I am not a regular contributor to this board.

Recruiting more African Americans into the Republican party is going to be a challenge. The mindset I find that differentiates my fellow black conservatives and my liberal friends is that my conservative friends are much more willing to insist the problems within our community are brought on by ourselves. My liberal friends tend to blame the system or blame someone for their issues.

Becoming a Black Conservative is about questioning the "status quo" within the black community. For every unfortunate situation where a cop kills a young black man, we have 10 young black men killing other young black men. Our unemployment rates are twice white America because our kids aren't as well educated as white kids. There are many other issues but if you challenge the "status quo" then you are opposing the community and seen as "not black enough"

If you are interested in learning more about this topic take a look at Jason Riley's "Please Stop Helping Us" . Cover in-depth many issues surrounding the black community and how liberals hold back the black community.

Before Black Conservatives can change the mindset of Black America, black america must be willing to accept opposing viewpoints.

If we had more leaders who shared your view points, this country would be so much better off.

My only objection is that the conservative base needs to listen to black people.

I agree with every thing you have said, but this isn't a one sided affair were the "opposing" side makes generalizations and observations from a far. They need to take steps, like Rand Paul has done, to go to communities, and hear what the people have to say, show that they care, and offer solutions that will help the community.

It's very possible. But we cannot have politicians that are scared of scaring off their main voting bloc.
