Buddy of mine from Arkansas and about 8 of us will be making the trip to Bayou Meto first day of the second split (Dec 5) and wanted to see if yall had any tips for some first timers. I'm aware of the regs and whatnot, and have heard all about the "boat races" leaving the launch at 4AM sharp. We will have 3 boats with us, 2 outboards and 1 surface drive. Should be quite the experience.

Thanks for the details

Is it that bad? Will we shoot ducks?

Don't set up in the boat lanes. Stay until you are required to leave. Get as far away from people as possible (quite difficult).
Don't shoot/call others swing ducks.
Don't sky bust ( shoot when they are below the tree top and lower)
You need a jerk string
Don't set up too close to someone already there
Scout, scout, scout
Take someone's truck w'a AR plate
Cut off your lights when launching and DO NOT f around, have your stuff on go
Be overly friendly to the locals and don't ask any questions
I'm sure I will think of some more

Out of curiosity why Bayou Meto?

It can be good hunting in there but it's pounded so much. There are some WAY better places to hunt in AR that provide greentree hunting and less pressure especially if the rivers are high.

That being said it's worth the trip to say you have done it. Scout as much as you can on line to find small openings in the trees then get GPS coordinates of those openings and go look at them before hunting. Then make a list of you top spots and go hunt one.

If all else fails listen for the groups doing all the shooting and try and beat them there the next day.

Buddy of mine guided up in AR with a fella who grew up hunting the area, so he's basically gonna be our guide. Will be staying in Little Rock at my buddy's house and making the morning drive to the launch.

Flooded timber duck hunting in Meto is the most fun I've had with my clothes on.

They will be making a couple of hunts before we get up there and know of a few spots that they have hunted before.

^^^ This is game changing information. Yall will be good, Im sure those guys know the ropes of getting in and gone and all that shite.

Prepare yourself to see the utmost sugarassness you can imagine.

As the sun comes up, it will rise to the sweet sound of 1000 +/- DC Mondo's ringing in unison.

When the ducks are on, there is NOTHING better.

Seriously be careful in the boats though. I hunt the White River near there and some of those frickers dont seem to value a life with all of the swerving and shite.
